Geaux to Hell

I don't think I've ever admitted this to anyone, but I slept straight through last year's fourth quarter miracle comeback at LSU. I don't remember what brand of death flu had felled me that week, but Big Evil was on hand, fetching me juice and watching me watch football, so it must have been dire.

Anyway, at the end of the third quarter I drifted off to sleep, and once he was sure I was out he put in Tanner '88. We had no clue what was unfolding in Death Valley until the screaming outside woke me.

I don't remember running to Neyland, or how I lost a flip-flop, or how I got home without it. As riots go, it was entertaining, though nothing will ever compare to the sheer chaos of half the school turning up at the track in the middle of the night to meet the team buses after the 2001 Florida smackdown. (I watched that entire game on a three-inch television in the CBT booth while running lights, and suffered several aneurysms trying not to scream.)

Anyway, the rematch is less than four hours away, and it'll set our injured starting QB and his freshman backup against the #1 team in the country in total defense, so don't expect an end to the drama just yet.

Another item for the list of Things Adam Couldn't Have Predicted In High School: myself, driving to Atlanta, listening to the UT-LSU game on the radio and nearly losing control of my car while screaming at Tennessee's defense in the end of the fourth quarter.

Wish we'd stopped 'em. But such is the way of the universe.

Yeah, I waited until I was safely ensconced at an SEC powerhouse before coming out of the football closet. I'm still not sure how y'all would have reacted.

Considering all the factors mentioned in the post, I think our boys have a lot to be proud of. If we win out, it's a mid-range bowl game for us, and well done. I mean, we lost to the two best teams in the SEC by a total of what, five points? It's a sight beyond last year.
