We're going to the Super Bowl. My beloved boys in blue are AFC Champions.
This would probably be more coherent tomorrow, but I wanted to say it all while I'm too drunk with glee to be embarrassed. I've never had this feeling before. I've been a Colts fan for so many years, and they've never made it past this game in my lifetime. My job status, love life, and near-total solitude in California formed a perfect storm of emotional hell for me this past week, and right now none of that seems to matter very much. And that's why we watch, right?
To have it happen today, and to experience the game while besieged on all sides with calls and messages from my many families (to say nothing of the staggering volume of wit and passion over on Deadspin)...this means so much. One of the posters told me tonight that "The whole world wants to be you right now." I wish this screaming, spinning, riotous delight on everyone at least once. I'm overwhelmed and overjoyed that I got to spend my 25th in such fine company.
And I meant every word of that kissing promise. Line forms to the left.
Beautiful, as always.
And I can't believe you didn't get yourself banned this week. I thought you were a goner for sure.
Posted by: Shea at January 21, 2007 08:41 PMCredit for that goes to everyone but me. I ran the birthday thing into the ground (I mean, not for the attention, because big deal, but because I felt the confluence of dates was too cosmic not to count for something), and was never told to shut the fuck up. And it's Deadspin, so that's saying something.
Posted by: Holly at January 21, 2007 08:45 PMI only know you from your deadspin commenting (stellar, by the way)- but I think the mutual karma of our birthdays (my 24th was the 20th) pulled the Colts over the edge. I don't mean to be arrogant or anything, but you're welcome, Indianapolis. I shall live the next two weeks in drunken glee. I love you, strange woman who I have never met. I will love you all through my drunken slumber.
Posted by: Steven at January 21, 2007 09:21 PMBack atcha, stranger. Happy birthday, and sweet dreams.
Posted by: Holly at January 21, 2007 09:27 PMI thought I'd leave a nice comment here too, since you really are living the dream of a lot of people right now. I wish my team would win the game that sent them to the Super Bowl on my birthday (my Raiders lost to the Chiefs on an Aaron Brooks INT for my birthday this year, just to give you comparison). As a fan of a team that went 2-14 and is in the middle of a head coaching search and has a cloudy future, I'm jealous.
Anyways, enjoy it, wear Colts stuff every day leading up to the Super Bowl. And hopefully Peyton will win that Super Bowl, I know I'm rooting for that and a lot of other people are as well.
So enjoy, and keep those Deadspin comments rolling!
Posted by: Tom/SVPIMH at January 21, 2007 09:41 PMSVPIMH! Poor Raiders...maybe they'll snap up Cowher after next season (guy could use a tan). Thanks, man, and thanks for having my back this whole week.
Posted by: Holly at January 22, 2007 06:36 AMHolly,
I read some of your comments over on Deadspin, and I just wanted to tell you how great it is to know that there is another girl like me out there. I live in DC but I was born in Indy and have been a huge Colts fan since I was little (I just turned 25 in Dec). It seems like forever that I've had to put up with all the comments about how the Colts (and specifically Peyton) will always choke, and I am loving every second of the sweet vindication. I am in a continuous loop of drunken glee, and I can't stop smiling like an idiot. I loved seeing the Dome explode and I love my hometown, and I don't care that no one else does. Happy Birthday :)
Posted by: Erin at January 22, 2007 10:01 PMYet another technical-stranger-longtime-snarker who thought of you as that interception ended all hope for the Pats. While I'm a Vermonter and formally in mourning this week, I have to say that I smiled knowing you'd be absolutely bonkers somewhere. Good on ya' kid
Posted by: Alexei at January 23, 2007 01:54 PMThanks again for an amazing birthday; hi Deadspinners; hi lurking strangers; love y'all, and WOO!!
