HBB Round 1 Endorsements

I wasn't going to do this, but there are buddies of mine in close races all over this thing, and if we can encourage chicanery on the part of our readership, why can't we participate ourselves?

We did our level best to make rigging the polls difficult; sadly, that makes it tricky for us to sway the vote as well. So I'm asking you at this time, if you love me at all, to find every computer you can and cast ballots until your fingers fall off for the following gentlemen:

AFC North

  • Jay Busbee
  • Peter Bean
  • Sven
  • Marc Gallant
  • T. Kyle King
Campbell Conference
  • Orson Swindle
  • MCBias
  • Davey
  • Doug
  • J-Red
  • Kanu
  • Trey
  • Sunday Morning QB
Mid-Atlantic
  • Shanoff
  • Precious Roy
  • Slick Bomb
  • TheGoldfishCowboy
  • Burnsy
  • Vanilla
  • Monday Morning Punter
  • One More Dying Quail
  • Signal To Noise
National League West
  • Leitch
  • Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson
  • Awful Announcing
  • You Been Blinded
  • TC
  • Red Sox Stats
  • Pete Holiday
  • 289
Not a sports fan? Vote anyway! I'm sure you owe me. Some of these guys need no help, counta' being famous and all. Some of them let us cuss on the radio. Some of them can turn a wicked phrase; and some can simply fill out a tux like nobody's business. But for one reason or another, they're all deserving of your vote. Early and often.

Somewhere deep down I'm sure you just wanted to see the world's first 21 seed win something.

Posted by: Suss at June 6, 2007 01:41 PM

Dude. You're up against the Mini Ponies guy. How can I vote against Mini Ponies? How can anyone? A vote for Suss is a vote against critters!

Posted by: Holly at June 6, 2007 02:02 PM

I am happy to have earned your support at the polls. I'll need it because my formidable opponent is making this one hanging-chad close.

Posted by: Signal to Noise at June 6, 2007 02:11 PM

See? Anyone can earn my vote. In S2N's case, all he had to do was tell me when the scary parts of Planet Earth were over. Oh, and run a badass blog.

Posted by: Holly at June 6, 2007 02:14 PM

Thank you for your endorsement, I need all the help I can get.

Posted by: Vanilla at June 6, 2007 02:22 PM

Civic Support from the Layman Sidelines, here. I'm sure at some point you'll tell me what I've voted for, though a cursory perusal of sundry articles did culminate in the unveiling of the faces of madness...

Posted by: Big Daddy at June 6, 2007 02:30 PM

"You're up against the Mini Ponies guy."

So you're saying I should rather be directing my shenanigan-calling toward the makers of the bracket instead of you?

Posted by: Suss at June 6, 2007 02:58 PM

The Mini Ponies Guy.

I'll Take It. Has a nice ring to it.

Posted by: tecmo_bowl_bo_jackson at June 6, 2007 03:46 PM

Woo! Official support by a Lady... herself. It's like the New York Times endorsement or something. Thanks!

Posted by: TC at June 6, 2007 03:55 PM

You have Steve Martin to thank for that, if you know what I mean...

Posted by: Holly at June 6, 2007 03:59 PM

Boy, do I. I have Steve Martin to thank for a lot of ladies-based things.

I'm not really sure what that means, but there: I said it.

Posted by: TC at June 6, 2007 04:02 PM

Your endorsement is prize enough, Holly, but I'm still losing to a guy who recently wrote this on his weblog:

[quote]The slow creep of Age will occasionally tap you on the shoulder and remind you of its presence. I was most recently tapped on my birthday in December. In conversation with a friend several states away, who has not seen me in person in quite a while, the comment was made that I should not worry about getting old and "going bald".

Going bald. Not "losing my hair" or "aging gracefully": going bald. Like, "Hope you enjoyed all of those follicles, because they're soon going to find another place to reside, and it's probably the drain in your shower" going bald. I still think of myself, and am frequently reminded, that I'm still a young pup. Baldness would be the thing that would tip me over from looking my age (or perhaps younger) to "he's younger than he looks" territory.

This was cause for minor panic, as well as some ruminations on the passing of time. I realized that my standard joke about how my drivers license picture makes me look sixteen is funny becaue I'm ten years removed from the year I learned to drive. I've found kids that I used to baby sit on Facebook, and they're not underclassmen. Plus, I'm closer to thirty than to eighteen, and by a significant margin. So I guess I'm an adult, and it's going to stay that way for a while.[end quote]

There. Is. No. Justice.

Posted by: PB at June 7, 2007 06:47 AM

You made that up.

.....you did not make that up.

I don't know HOW he is pulling in all these votes, especially since you can't tell he's wearing seersucker just by looking at the photo, but if he thinks I'm above doing something completely ridiculous, like conscripting my entire Facebook friends list to take him down (in the polls), he is dearly mistaken.

Posted by: Holly at June 7, 2007 07:42 AM

Gah. How did I slip behind a blog that hasn't been updated in months?

Must be the tuxedo.

Posted by: Signal to Noise at June 7, 2007 10:34 AM

Hey thanks! This has turned out to be less embarassing than I thought (so far)...

Posted by: Grubby at June 7, 2007 10:40 AM

There. Is. No. Justice.

*hitching up pants, spitting, mumbling something about Texas justice and gazing menacingly in the general direction of College Station*

Posted by: Holly at June 7, 2007 10:58 AM

I wasn't going to get into all this campaigning and poking fun... but now

1- I found out that I am paired against a UF grad (was this on purpose? if so, touche'), because he

2- Wrote a not-flattering campaigning post here, so I in turn

3- Kicked it up a few pegs

I'm above nothing.

Posted by: Grubby at June 7, 2007 09:01 PM

I am not on this list? GASP! No wonder I'm a 21-seed. So much for my consolation prize ;-)Losing...all...motivation...for...posters... :-p

Posted by: mcbias at June 7, 2007 11:05 PM

When I made this list, I couldn't decide....and then you made those posters.

I'm swayed.

Posted by: Holly at June 7, 2007 11:09 PM

Throwing your weight behind Busbee, Shanoff, Swindle, & Leitch?

[simmons]It's like rooting for the house in blackjack.[/simmons]

Posted by: Extra P. at June 8, 2007 08:07 AM

Hey, I said some of them didn't need my help.

In my defense:
*Without Leitch, we wouldn't have a site at all.
*Shanoff was a huge supporter of this idea from the beginning.
*Swindle lets me cuss on the radio.
*And Busbee, well, that's pure homerism.

Posted by: Holly at June 8, 2007 08:09 AM

YES! Thanks for making my day H.

Posted by: Awful Announcing at June 8, 2007 08:18 AM

Dude, you? REALLY don't need my help. What're you at, 80%?

Of course you've got my vote....do y'all really want me to go down the list and name every person I voted for?

Posted by: Holly at June 8, 2007 08:21 AM

Believe me, I understand, Holly. I just wanted to do the /simmons tag.

I believe that every one of the guys above is a superior writer and I'd do every single one of them in a pinch. Especially Will and Jay for encouraging the dreams of an extremely post-adolescent writer.

Posted by: Extra P. at June 8, 2007 08:22 AM

It was the Tennessee thing, wasn't it?

Posted by: Craig Barker at June 8, 2007 08:23 AM

Many thanks, Holly, for the endorsement, and Extra P., for the Simmons reference. Y'all always have a home for your work at SGS.

'Course, if I win this thing, there'll be a cover charge to get in, but still.

Posted by: Jay @ Sports Gone South at June 8, 2007 08:39 AM

That's OK, Jay. I plan to steal glasses and break the sink in the men's room anyway.

Posted by: Extra P. at June 8, 2007 08:42 AM

@Extra--I have given serious thought to referring to my hetero lifemate as J-Bug on this site. But then I usually throw up in my mouth.

@Yostal--How do I put this delicately...you are up against a guy wearing eye black. There will be no sunrise for Wolverines on my watch. (And don't even try to play the Red Dawn card with me; it wasn't even set in Michigan.)

@Jay--I'll be there with bells on come fall. If I don't find some other outlet I'll be posting five football entries a day on Ladies, most of them drenched in SEC bias, and something tells me the other girls might occasionally want the chance to write as well.

Posted by: Holly at June 8, 2007 09:44 AM

Damn it, I knew I should have MS Painted eye black in! Well, I do understand, and I'm no longer getting stomped like a narc at a biker rally, so I've found my peace with reality.

Posted by: Yostal at June 8, 2007 09:49 AM

31% is very respectable.

Go Vols.

Posted by: Holly at June 8, 2007 10:09 AM

Holly could definitely do a good "Make us love..." entry for SGS.

For your sake, though, I hope you never have to do a "What went wrong with..." post, however.
