West Fuckin' Virginia 38, Loovll 31.

Pat White fumbled thrice and Brian Brohm did a yeoman's job, but there would be no Kragthorping of Morgantown. The thing about White...that 50-yard run in the 4th was both entertaining to watch and saved the game for WFV, but he has an unnerving ability to actually pick up speed as he's changing direction. We are further blessed with this only-in-2007 tidbit from the AP wire:

The win allowed West Virginia (8-1, 3-1 Big East) to remain on Connecticut's heels for a berth in the Bowl Championship Series with three games left, including a key matchup next week at Cincinnati.

That's impressive, but I just saw a video of some guy beating Super Mario Bros. in just over 5 minutes. Now that there's some skill.

The front page story at ESPN is about Fulmer and his questionable employment status. As lousy as the Vols have performed this year I don't think getting rid of Fulmer is the answer. We can't expect any more championships out of him, but each year he delivers a decent record and a (usually) blowout-free year. Plus, I can't think of any available coaches I'd rather have, unless Petrino tucks tail and goes back to college next year.

All this attention on Fulmer and McFadden, and still we are relegated to the Daves.

I think it's worth noting that a strongly worded full page ad ran in this morning's News Sentinel, extolling Fulmer's virtues and saying that firing him would be a disastrous move for the University of Tennessee. Why is this noteworthy? Because it was signed by over 200 former UT players, including Peyton Manning, Jeff Hall, Jason Witten, Will Overstreet, Jesse Mahelona, Casey Clausen, and The Kicking Colquitts. Noticeably absent? Jamal Lewis and Travis Henry, but since people in Cleveland don't read and Henry doesn't even support his many children, I expect nothing less.

Let us observe the mistakes of Notre Dame and Nebraska, two decent programs that went straight to hell because they got greedy. We have a solid, if not brilliant coach in Fulmer. You have to appreciate a coach that has never even stirred rumors of leaving after such a successful run in a major program (Petrino, Spurrier, Saban, etc etc.)
