Today's Special, cheering interests in bold:
I don't know why I subject myself to reading your anti-ND propaganda, but there is no way the Blue Devils can beat the Irish today (unless they somehow convince our players that they are a service academy). Go Vols! Is Kentucky really beating Georgia???
Posted by: Irish Duffy 98 at November 17, 2007 10:22 AMPropaganda? No need, son. ND's record speaks for itself. :) This is just good healthy loathing that only extends as far as the team on the field.
Posted by: Holly at November 17, 2007 10:30 AMOSU? I can't even look at you right now.
Posted by: The Great Barstoolio at November 17, 2007 10:33 AMThey're playing Michigan. I'll sleep just fine.
Posted by: Holly at November 17, 2007 10:34 AMProphetic you are, but anyone who watches Pac-10 football with any sort of attention to detail can sense when the Tedford Collapse will arrive -- and it almost always starts on a nationally televised game.
Even when that game is on Versus, that's still nationally televised.
Posted by: Signal to Noise at November 17, 2007 10:48 AMNo, I'm saying I called their whole season over Labor Day weekend. Which I did.
Posted by: Holly at November 17, 2007 10:51 AMI can actually vouch for this one. When I bugged Holly for details on the game the day after Cal-TN, she said two things: "That stadium sucks and Longshore is not happening. Hear me now - Cal is not what people think."
I thought she was just upset about the loss. Apparently not.
Posted by: PB at November 17, 2007 11:00 AMI don't doubt you there. Longshore always seemed like the latest in a line of mediocre QBs hyped through the supposed offensive genius of Tedford.
Of course, everyone can blame the tree-sitters for denying them the facilities they need.
Posted by: Signal to Noise at November 17, 2007 11:16 AMFor the record, I was kinda sceptical preseason about Cal but certainly did not anticipate the magnitude of their recent patheticness. I was certainly expecting more out of DeSean. I must confess I started to believe, a little, after the Tennessee game and was kinda excited about them being No. 1 for the two hours that seemed a realistic prospect. Last week was the first game I have seen in person during the Tetford regime and was glad they at least got out there with some modicum of dignity.
Oh and Holly, you're right the stadim does suck.
S2N is right that Tetford has not been precisely masterful in the bigger games but we're damn lucky to have him considering the last 50 or so years of Cal football and the available facilities and lack of fan enthusiasm.
H, hope you're enjoying Michigan's pain. Mucho luck to your Vols (would love to see LSU/Tennessee).
Posted by: marcillac at November 17, 2007 11:45 AMAt least we should get a good draft pick this year. Oh, crap, it doesn't work that way???
Posted by: Irish Duffy 98 at November 17, 2007 12:00 PMok, so growing up in nashville, it's part of your duty to be a back-up vandy fan (you cheer for them except when they play tennessee) so it's always a little tough to watch the UT-Vandy game, but since they are Vanderbilt...they always choke (choosing to ignore the 2005 season for personal reasons)
well espn agrees>>>>>
5:19 p.m.: Vandy misses a 49-yard field goal that would have given them the lead against Tennessee. It's a rough way to lose for the Commodores, who at one point lead 24-9.
5:20 p.m.: ESPN.com's David Albright
And that ladies and gentlemen, is why you're Vanderbilt. Tough loss for the Commodores and the Vols are back in the SEC East hunt. A UT win next weekend at Kentucky and the Vols will be headed to the SEC Championship Game.
LET'S go UPright *clapclap clapclapclap*
oh and nice game Bammers
Posted by: Alex at November 17, 2007 04:26 PMNote in the final matchup: BC vs. Clemson may be the one and only time we will see above average quarterbacks in the ACC this year. Marvel at how the downfall of Big 10 quality has obscured how much the ACC reeks.
Posted by: Signal to Noise at November 17, 2007 04:34 PMJust got back from the Vols game. The numbers don't show it, but Ainge looked awful today. In the first half he was missing wide open receivers 5 yards away. He left at least three TD's on the field. Thank God they pulled it out. Ainge practically gift wrapped that game for Vandy. I want them to win the division, but I don't know if it would be humane to put them on the field with LSU.
Posted by: T Bag at November 17, 2007 06:45 PMYeah it was frustrating for 2 and a half quarters. Never seen him throw the ball so hard that he knocked a guy down like he did on that lateral. And then Vandy would chew up the clock and not let us have the ball back for minutes at a time. Meanies.
They play their best when they're not favored, usually, and I can't imagine many people would pick UT over LSU, which might be what they would need.
Except.....Mark May picked UT over LSU tonight.
Posted by: Alex at November 17, 2007 06:51 PMBayou Bungles can always make it interesting but would certainly have to be favored. Meanwhile Kentucky isn't an absolute layup (basketball pun intended - sorry - although the Vols should be better than them at B-Ball this year).
Oh, and Saban Monroed. Love it.
Posted by: marcillac at November 18, 2007 06:39 AMTHat Bama loss was bad for the whole conference. It's almost as bad as the App St. loss. Oh, and the Vols were destroyed by a team that lost to a Sun Belt bottom feeder. Nice.
