New awesome possibility: That the paychecks I deposited on Saturday (the ones for the first half of December, since, y'know, still not paid for the rest of it), though they cleared MY bank, could still not clear the bank THEY were drawn on, go up in smoke and be disappeared from my account, leaving me in a biiiiiit of a bind as far as, um, February's rent and such trifles.
Don't worry, this doesn't affect OUR plan for success. ([You + (Me + Redacted) X California] / Community Property Laws - Redacted = Eternal Glory)

Posted by: Signal to Noise at January 10, 2008 01:18 AMdo what you can - call the bank, call the rent people - but don't let it freak you out too much. one of the reasons i picked up and moved to peru was because i realized how much of my 20s i wasted worrying about money.
Posted by: kleph at January 10, 2008 05:01 AMOK, so our parent company is guaranteeing everybody's checks, which sounds magnanimous but is kinda Their Job...now the real question is whether they'll cover the fees my bank hits me with in case this actually ends up happening. I called my bank; nothing's been sent back yet so I may have squeaked by at the last second (to review...Saturday: Holly deposits checks. Monday: Checks clear Holly's bank. Tuesday: Axium assets frozen.), but I have no concept of how long these things take, and neither does anyone else.
Posted by: Holly at January 10, 2008 08:28 AMif there is one thing i know for true that is you are better off being lucky than good. the direct corollary to that is the fact timing actually IS everything.
if i read this story correct then the timeline was that sometime last week axium defaulted on it's $140 million loan to golden tree access management. the latter swooped in on friday and siezed $22 million in axium's account.
which gave you a mighty short window when the banks opened on monday to get your cash processed before the axium honchos threw in the towel and went officially chapter seven on tuesday.
my advice? go buy a few lottery tickets cause when your luck is this good, you want to ride it as far as it will f#kn take you.
