Hiveation

[Scene: Late show of Brokeback Mountain, Saturday night:]
HOLLY and JOAN, in perfect unplanned unison, during a cutesy scene that did not, for the record, even contain a phone: "No, YOU hang up!"

[Scene: The Internet, Tuesday night:]
7:56:43 PM nicodemus055: The premise is just as whimsical as any other Cirque show's: something or other to do with a clown dreaming about his funeral.
7:57:23 PM nastinchka: That is whimsical.
7:57:51 PM nastinchka: In the way that the "Murder isn't funny!/It is if you're killing a clown" joke is funny
7:58:10 PM nicodemus055: Ooh. I'm going to email you A La Menthe.
7:58:28 PM nastinchka: ....That sounds Tawdry.
7:59:14 PM nicodemus055: Emailed.
7:59:34 PM nicodemus055: I used to finish all of my runs in Berkeley to this song. It makes your heart rate feel slow.
8:01:33 PM nastinchka: Who's this by?
8:01:39 PM nicodemus055: Nikkfurie
8:01:43 PM nicodemus055: It's from Ocean's 12
8:08:38 PM nastinchka: OMG
8:08:53 PM nicodemus055: ?
8:08:59 PM nastinchka: You're not going to believe this
8:09:30 PM nastinchka: But I made a comment about not being able to find this song ANYWHERE about ten minutes ago on one of Erin's Facebook photos.
8:09:49 PM nastinchka: I didn't know what it was called, and I downloaded what I thought was the whole damn soundtrack and this wasn't on it.
8:09:57 PM nastinchka: It's the song for the Night Fox scene.
8:10:16 PM nicodemus055: Yep.
8:11:22 PM nastinchka: THIS IS WEIRD.
8:11:48 PM nicodemus055: Hive, yo.

Pool of the Damned: Week 1 Results

Holly: Tampa Bay, New England, New York, Pittsburgh
Joan: Washington, Jacksonville, New York, Pittsburgh
Moo: Washington, New England, New York, Pittsburgh
Peck: Washington, New England, Carolina, Pittsburgh
Pladd: Washington, New England, Carolina, Pittsburgh

Correct picks in bold. Yes, we're losing. Already. To two boys and a mom. Accepting our defeat with uncharacteristic grace, however, we shift our focus to the week ahead:

LiviaHarlowe: pladd and i are making our week 2 predictions. what say you?
Nastinchka: I don't know.....my hopes are so tied up in HOPING the Pats will lost to the Broncos, I don't feel comfy predicting they'll win. (Even though I think they will.)
LiviaHarlowe: thats the only game we're having trouble calling
LiviaHarlowe: i'm taking redskins, panthers, and colts
Nastinchka: Redskins over (Who the hell are they playing?) Seattle?
LiviaHarlowe: yup.
Nastinchka: The NFC games are so off my radar. What about Carolina?
LiviaHarlowe: bears
Nastinchka: Ok. I'll take Seahawks, Bears, and Colts.
Nastinchka: You really think Carolina can take Chicago? At Chicago, after the way the Panthers played yesterday?
LiviaHarlowe: Yup. Everyone is lining up to blow the Bears' defense, but they're coming off a long break, and the Panthers are more motivated.
Nastinchka: Cool. Ok. Seattle, Chicago, Indy, and (fuck it), Denver.
Nastinchka: I'm in.
LiviaHarlowe: i'm telling you, kyle orton will not do better against the panthers than poor eli did.
LiviaHarlowe: i wanna pick denver too
LiviaHarlowe: but i'm afraid
LiviaHarlowe: because i only want to pick them because i hate the pats so much
Nastinchka: I'd rather throw my support (and voodoo) to the Broncos than be wrong when they lose.
LiviaHarlowe: then again, i wont finalize my picks until friday, so they might change my mind before then.
Nastinchka: Yesh.
Nastinchka: I don't think Denver will win either. But I think they need all the help they can get.
LiviaHarlowe: Wasn't trying to force your picks. Unlike Sean, who tried to bully me into picking the Panthers last week
LiviaHarlowe: (although maybe i should have listened, in hindsight)
LiviaHarlowe: denver might pull it out. the homefield advantage will be a huge factor.
Nastinchka: I fucking hope so. I had to root for the damn Steelers yesterday so NE would go to Denver instead of Indy.
LiviaHarlowe: same thing i did

LiviaHarlowe: okay, philip, calm down.
LiviaHarlowe: breathe through your nose.
pladdtn82: 1-0 is possible i think
pladdtn82: isn't a forfeit scored as 1-0? i predict they forfeit
LiviaHarlowe: they wouldn't forfeit that game even if they had to start an actual snake in the place of jake.
pladdtn82: umm...if Chris Wienke had to start, I'd forfeit
pladdtn82: snake > Wienke
LiviaHarlowe: if Chris Weinke had to start, I would dress a chimpanzee in his uniform and chloroform him and put him in a dumpster somewhere. Chimpanzee > Weinke.

pladdtn82: except the whole ravens thing.
LiviaHarlowe: the ravens make me sad. sad, like seeing a homeless guy begging for change. it's the exact same feeling, actually.

Nastinchka: Hey, I'm gonna post our picks from last week.
LiviaHarlowe: What was your record last week? And no, I don't want any record of me picking Eli Manning posted publicly. Let's just start with this week.
Nastinchka: 2-2. Fucking Tampa Bay.
LiviaHarlowe: Eli shamed my house.
Nastinchka: Hey, I picked him too.
LiviaHarlowe: He brought dishonor to us all.
LiviaHarlowe: You can post my pick if you post that quote with it.

LiviaHarlowe: isn't it funny how we're the two biggest football fans, and we're somehow at the bottom of this? thespis is cruel.
LiviaHarlowe: that'll teach us to bet with our hearts.
Nastinchka: This is what we get for loving Mannings more than reason.
LiviaHarlowe: Yup. and TIKI BARBER betrayed me too. and i LOVE him. someone should remind him that we do not become football players to pursue our own destinies. we are geisha.
Nastinchka: Leave.
LiviaHarlowe: going now.

I think that I shall never see/A poem as lovely as FOOTBAWL

With my two favorite teams in the Rose Bowl, there was nothing to cheer for but a good game. And despite the fact that Texas had six more points on the board than they technically scored...what a game. Vince Young? Is a killer robot. A hot killer robot.

The taped intros have a habit of being eye-clawingly annoying, but Will Ferrell responding to some line of Matthew McConaughey's with "I can't heeeear you! I've got a HEISMAN IN MY EAR!!" brought the house down.

Sportscaster highlights:
*"We'regonnaplayfootballYIPPEE!!"
*[While looking at Leinart's stats] "That should be enough to put him in to the yearbook."
*The mis(?)pronunciation of Tom Brady as "Tom Bratty"
*"That ol' missed extra point's gonna lay there on the scoreboard all night long!"
*The frequent use of the phrase "times out".
*The hilarious Quidditch monologue after Bush's airborne touchdown. ("I don't see his broomstick! He's got the Snitch in the end zone!!" No, seriously, a professional ABC announcer let that one fly.)
*Reporter: "Tell us what this means to the great state of Texas."
Mack Brown: "Well, they're all here."

Best line of the night: "This is the biggest day in Texas history since the Battle of San Jacinto".

And juuuust as we were going to bed? We caught wind of this. Happy New Year, y'all.
